XARILAOS
The artmaker
The story behind the art
The conception
Xarilaos is a self-taught artist born in Athens in 1960. His interest in fine arts began at a very young age . The very art that actually drew his attention was the creation of sculptural compositions resulting from combinations of contradictory materials. His love for this form of expression led him to the constant discovery of techniques and approaches of the art of sculpting. The materials he chooses are mainly wood (objets trouvés) and pebbles.
Having a particular interest for both pine and vine trees, he always chooses materials that leave an artistic imprint and have often survived one or more natural disasters.
The creation
The various artistic stimuli he has received during his lifetime have indirectly underlined his work, the final form of which he began to capture at the beginning of 2016.
To this date, he has created hundreds of unique artifacts having wood as their main material. His work is divided into 6 complete collections (Collections: Lilliput, Maxima, Medium, Mega, Pendula and Vitis).
The making
His workshop is located in Paianιa in a large area of trees that he takes care of himself. The ability of nature to create art was always moving to Xarilaos and it can be considered as the reference point of his inspiration journey.

pairing contradictions
“Nature’s intensities and contradictions have always been deeply moving, to my eyes.
I find the way the wood complements the pebble particularly charming, even though they are such different and contradictory materials.”
